Counselling Psychologist specialising in supporting young people with neurodevelopmental disorders

Jessica Gash is a Chartered Counselling Psychologist who specialises in working with young people with neurodevelopmental conditions.

Throughout her career Jessica has worked across a range of settings, including inpatient and outpatient NHS services, residential, educational, private and charity settings, with extensive experience working across different Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS). As a result, Jessica is experienced to work with a variety of challenges commonly experienced during childhood and adolescence.

Jessica continues to work with young people as a counselling psychologist in the NHS alongside her private practice. Jessica’s current NHS role is based at the Maudsley Hospital, where she is a counselling psychologist in the Autism and Intellectual Disabilities Intensive Intervention Team (AID-IIT). AID-IIT sits within National and Specialist CAMHS and works with local services across London to support young people with Intellectual Disabilities and/or Autism who are at risk of/ undergoing an inpatient admission. As such Jessica is qualified and experienced to work with both complex and more straight forward mental health challenges.

Jessica has gained a number of years of experience working with neurodiverse individuals across the lifespan. This has included working with individuals with a range of neurodivergent needs such as Autism, ADHD, and Intellectual (Learning) Disabilities, alongside those experiencing a range of mental health difficulties. Through this experience, Jessica is skilled in working therapeutically with neurodiverse young people and their families alongside carrying out assessments of neurodevelopmental conditions.

Jessica is experienced in undertaking thoughtful, comprehensive assessments, formulations and therapeutic interventions alongside young people and their parents/carers, which work to facilitate greater understanding and generate avenues for meaningful change. She draws upon a range of models in her clinical work, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), systemic approaches, trauma-focused approaches, and narrative approaches.

Fundamental to Jessica’s practice, she prioritises developing a supportive and trusting relationship with everyone she works with to establish safety and understanding. Jessica is a warm, non-judgemental, and down-to-earth clinician, who holds an unwavering belief that everyone can work through their difficulties and re-connect with their personal strengths, resources, and values.

Jessica is extremely passionate about improving the lives of neurodiverse individuals and their families, holding this as a fundamental value within her work. Jessica acknowledges the challenges in feeling heard or understood that can be associated with neurodevelopmental conditions, and her sensitivity and compassion lends itself well to ensuring this can happen.

Jessica is a Chartered Counselling Psychologist approved by the Health and Care Professionals Council (HCPC). She completed her BSc (Hons) in Psychology at the University of Bath, and her Doctorate in Counselling Psychology at the University of Roehampton.
