Dr Hatel Bhatt

Senior Counselling Psychologist specialising in assessing for neurodevelopmental conditions.

Dr Hatel Bhatt is a fully qualified and HCPC-registered Counselling Psychologist with over 10 years of experience working across a range of Child and Adolescent NHS services. Her work has spanned schools, community settings, and specialist complex CAMHS services. In her current NHS role, she works in a specialist service assessing and supporting complex neurodevelopmental presentations where there are associated mental and physical health concerns.

As part of the Harwood Child Psychology team, Hatel offers comprehensive neurodevelopmental assessments. She works collaboratively with children, young people, and families to help them understand specialist assessments, outcomes, and the most appropriate next steps. She does not narrowly just look for a diagnosis, but takes into account everything going on for the child including mental health, physical health, personality, masking and other factors that can impact on a young person’s emotional wellbeing. By doing this her recommendations and next steps can be a lot more specific and targeted.

Hatel views assessment and therapy as collaborative processes and is committed to providing personalised care that best meets the needs of children, young people, and families.

Her specialist interests lie in health psychology, particularly supporting children and young people in coping with complex mental and physical health conditions. Her doctoral research explored the experiences of ethnic minority communities in accessing mental health services.
