Dr Aisling Coyle
Dr Aisling Coyle is a fully qualified and HCPC-registered Clinical Psychologist, Psychotherapist and Social Worker. She has over 10 years of experience working as a qualified clinician in both the NHS and private sectors.
Aisling is part of the psychology team at Harwood Child Psychology, offering a clinic on Thursdays at the Hampstead Garden Suburb clinic on Finchley Road. She is available for both in-person and online appointments.
Dr Aisling Coyle has held senior clinical roles within the NHS, having specialised in supporting young people experiencing intense and overwhelming emotions, emotional dysregulation, complex trauma, relationship difficulties, self-esteem and self-image issues. She also offers support to parents and families, with experience facilitating carer sessions and groups.
Within these roles, Aisling has developed clinical pathways for teenagers transitioning into adulthood, recognising the need for an adapted approach to mental health care for teenagers and young people. She now works within a specialised transitions service within the NHS, where she adopts a trauma-informed, relational approach to supporting teenagers and young people with complex mental health needs.
Her practice is informed by evidence-based therapeutic approaches, including attachment-based and relational models, Mentalization-Based Therapy (MBT), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) (among other approaches that she has trained in over the years).
Aisling also has a keen interest in working with children experiencing health-related difficulties, stemming from her experience working within a paediatric hospital. She offered systemic, narrative and psychoanalytic play therapy to children experiencing challenges with their physical health, toileting, health-related anxiety, and coping with long term health conditions.
Aisling has a wealth of experience working with neurodiversity and in identifying and supporting ADHD and autistic presentations. She has conducted neuropsychological and developmental assessments and has completed autism diagnostic interview training.
Aisling offers a warm, compassionate and non-judgemental space where children, young people and their families can feel safe to explore their experiences and work towards meaningful change that aligns with their therapy goals. She has experience supporting people who find it difficult to open-up and trust professionals, having also worked with children and young people who find it difficult to communicate their thoughts and feelings, alongside those experiencing selective mutism.
Aisling has lengthy experience of providing consultation and training to GPs, schools and other health professionals. Additionally, she has an interest in population health and taking a preventative approach to mental health care, having completed research focused on this area.
