Dominic Wrein
Dr Dominic Wrein is a chartered clinical psychologist, specialising in working with children, young people, and their families. Dominic acts as a lead clinician for the neurodevelopmental assessments at Harwood Child Psychology.
Dominic has many years of working with adults and young people with a range of neurodivergent needs, including autism, ADHD, and intellectual (learning) disabilities. He has expertise in assessment of these neurodevelopmental conditions, as well as understanding how mental health conditions present in this population and how to adapt typical psychological interventions to improve efficacy.
Dominic has worked across a range of settings including residential, education, and NHS services. Dominic’s current NHS role is within the renowned Maudsley Hospital, where he is a senior clinical psychologist in the Autism and Intellectual Disabilities Intensive Intervention Team (AID-IIT). AID-IIT is part of National & Specialist CAMHS, working closely with local services across London to help them support young people with intellectual disabilities and/or autism who are in, or at risk of, an inpatient admission.
Dominic has a particular interest in working with complex systems and understanding the roles of the individual, their families, care workers and professionals.
Dominic co-founded and created a universal framework to promote emotional literacy in children with additional needs (PELICAN), he developed this in collaboration with the Foundation for People with Learning Disabilities and is working with stakeholders to disseminate more widely within the early years and education system.
In addition to his clinical work Dominic is also passionate about developing and promoting best practice within the field of neurodevelopmental conditions. He supervises both assistant and qualified psychologists as well as a clinical supervisor for trainee clinical psychologists undergoing their doctorate training.
Dominic is committed to consultation, training, and research; having contributed to publications, teaching nationally on autism best practice, and presenting at international conferences.
Dominic is enthusiastic about disseminating and discussing psychology outside of traditional mediums, he enjoys interacting with a wide audience through social media.
Dominic completed his undergraduate studies in Psychology with Neuroscience at the University of Sussex, achieving a first-class degree with honours. He trained at the University of East London, earning his Professional Doctorate in Clinical Psychology. He is registered with the Health Care Professions Council (HCPC) and is a Chartered Psychologist (C.Psychol) with the British Psychological Society. He is also a Member of the Association of Clinical Psychologists (ACP-UK).
