Consultant Clinical Psychologist, specialising in working with children, young people, adolescents and their families.

For over 25 years, Ruth has worked therapeutically with families presenting with a range of difficulties across the age range. Over the years, Ruth has gained experience working with most difficulties that occur within young people and their families.  She has worked in CAMHS (Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service) settings in both London and Manchester.

Ruth is an advanced practitioner, supervisor and trainer in Video Interaction Guidance (VIG), a strengths based intervention which enhances communication within relationships, by actively engaging clients in a process of change towards a better future in their relationships.

She is a strong advocate of working collaboratively with parents and young people to enable and strengthen their capacity and self-belief to address and resolve their difficulties. Families say that Ruth is very warm and approachable. She draws upon a range of therapeutic models, including cognitive behavioural and systemic approaches to inform her client work.

Ruth is also an accredited practitioner in the “circle of security” parenting programme, an attachment-based parenting education programme that helps parents better understand and build on their relationships with their children.  This program supports parents to understand their child's emotional world by learning to read emotional needs.

In addition to her current role, Ruth has previously worked as a trainer on a national delivery of the Family Partnership Training (evidence based training of partnership practice for prevention, early intervention and management of longer term difficulties).  She also worked as a supervisor and consultant to support the roll out of a peer support parenting course (EPEC – Empowering Parents, Empowering Communities) across the country.

Ruth supervises junior clinicians, whilst also maintaining her own clinical caseload. She is very passionate about supporting families and brings a wealth of experience.

Ruth is registered with the Health and Care Professionals Council (HCPC) and is also a member of the British Psychology Service (BPS) and the Association of Video Interaction Guidance (AVIG).
